The Rhyme of the Roving Rum

I’ll tell ye a tale ‘bout some Wild Days rum
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
How it travelled the world and went back to its home
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

It started when Yakka imposed on his mate
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
… to carry some rum to the airport gate
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

From Waiheke flew Alan, via Holland and Chine_
_ a – (Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
… and landed at last in Newcastle on Tyne
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

At the airport was Hayley, all smiles and cheer
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
She greeted young Alan and then they had beer!
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

Hayley passed it to Chris and then her job was done
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
So from Tyneside to Yorkshire, the next leg was run
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

Leg three was young Chris down to Mark and Elaine
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
(the bottle of rum was now driving them insane!)
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

Mark and Elaine down to Cornwall they go
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
… and handed the rum on to Sophie and Flo
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

Not being trusted to not have a taste
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
Skipper Martin collected from Sophie with haste!
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

The rum it was tasted around Fastnet Rock
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
And again on the finish line – OOOH what a shock!
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

(pause for breath and to recover from awful rhyming!)

Young Flaxie observed that all crew had gone home
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
.. and suggested the same might be done for the rum
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

Steve Banner (young Flaxie) was soon to be wed
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
And off to Waiheke for honeymoon, he said
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

‘Why not take back the rum bottle, won’t they be thrilled
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
… to return it with gin, special Plymouth distilled?’
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

We plotted and planned, and then Steve and his chum
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
Came to pick up the gin that once had been rum
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

So off Steve would fly, with his bride to be
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
To rendezvous down in the land of kiwi
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

So Yakka and Steve, they planned the outcome
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
Of transferring the gin that once had been rum
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)

And the pics tell the story of how it was planned
(Rum, Rum, yum yum yum)
And how the gin that was rum came to travel the land
(Yummy rum in my tum tum tum)
